NOVASTAR MCTRL 660

Event, stage and pro audio/video

The NovaStar MCTRL660 is a stand alone LED display controller, known in the trade as a sending box, housed in a rack mounted 1U case. It takes the video signal from a computer or media server over DVI and sends it through Gigabit Ethernet outputs to the receiving cards fitted in the LED panels. One unit drives a wall of roughly 1.3 million pixels and several units are cascaded for larger walls. It sits in the middle of the NovaStar range, above the plain sending cards fitted inside a computer and below the 4K controllers.

We recognise this model across the auction sites and keep every one we see together.

On a used one

Check that every Ethernet output drives a panel, that the DVI input locks to a signal, and that the unit is seen by the NovaLCT software so it can be configured. Ask which receiving cards it was last used with, since a firmware mismatch between sending and receiving cards is the usual cause of trouble.

About NOVASTAR

NovaStar is a Chinese maker of control systems for LED displays, based in Xi'an. It makes the sending cards, receiving cards, video processors and all in one controllers that sit between a video source and the panels of an LED wall, and its cards are fitted inside panels from many different panel makers. It is one of the largest suppliers of LED display control in the world and remains an independent company.
