Leitz is a German optical and precision engineering company founded in Wetzlar, famous for manufacturing Leica cameras and lenses, as well as microscopes and other optical instruments. The name is closely associated with high quality photographic lenses such as the Summicron and Elmar lines, which remain highly regarded among collectors and photographers. The camera and lens business continues today under the Leica brand. Founded 1869. Wetzlar, Germany. Part of Leica Camera AG.
