RECORD No2

Hand and power tools

The Record No2 is a small engineer's bench vice from the Record range of vices made in Sheffield, England, with a jaw width around 3.5 inches. It is a compact general purpose vice intended for light workshop and hobbyist use, mounted on a bench top for holding small workpieces during filing, sawing or assembly work. It sits at the lower end of the Record vice size range below larger models such as the No3 and No4.

We recognise this model across the auction sites and keep every one we see together.

On a used one

Check the jaws for wear or damage and that the moving slide runs smoothly without excessive play. Look for cracks in the casting, especially around the base and jaw, and confirm the handle and screw mechanism turn freely without binding.

About RECORD

Record is a British brand long associated with vices, clamps and workshop hand tools, historically produced by Record Ridgway and related manufacturers in Sheffield, England. The name has been applied across a range of workholding equipment, hand and power tools and even some agricultural and workshop items, with the numbered vice models being the most commonly encountered. Record tools are known for their durability and traditional engineering, and the brand today forms part of a larger tool making group.
