Vulcain Cricket

Jewellery, watches and silver

The Vulcain Cricket is a mechanical wristwatch famous for its loud alarm mechanism, which gave the model its name. Introduced in the 1940s, it became known as a watch favoured by statesmen, including American presidents, for its distinctive alarm sound. It occupies a special place in Vulcain's range as the maker's signature alarm watch, with a manually wound movement and a second crown for setting the alarm.

Built

since 1947

We recognise this model across the auction sites and keep every one we see together.

On a used one

Check that the alarm mechanism still functions loudly and reliably, as this is often the first part to fail or weaken with age. Have the movement serviced and verify the case, crystal and crown are original, since replacement parts and refinished dials are common on vintage examples.

About Vulcain

Vulcain is a Swiss watchmaking house founded in the Jura region, best known for its Cricket alarm watch, a mechanical wristwatch with a built in mechanical alarm. The brand has also appeared on kitchen and catering equipment, though this is a separate, unrelated use of the name. Vulcain watches are prized by collectors for their horological ingenuity and historical association with heads of state.
