Porsche 356

Cars

The 356 was Porsche's first production sports car, a lightweight rear engined coupe, cabriolet or speedster built on a shortened Volkswagen derived platform. It used air cooled flat four engines ranging from around 1.1 to 2.0 litres, and was offered in Pre A, A, B and C series over its life. It established the shape, philosophy and engineering approach that Porsche carried forward into the 911.

On a used one

Check for rust in the floor pans, battery tray, longitudinal members and around the windscreen, as bodies were thin steel and many have been repaired or replaced. Verify engine and chassis numbers match factory records, as values vary greatly between genuine matching numbers cars and those with replaced engines or re bodied shells. Ask about any coachwork alterations, as Speedsters and Cabriolets are often replicated from coupes.
